Combining models experimenting

Combining multiple models can be powerful, but it is also easy to overcomplicate. Teams often start experimenting with routing, ensembles, or specialized models before they have a clear reason for each piece in the chain.

The benefit comes when each model has a distinct role. A smaller model might handle classification, a larger one might handle reasoning, and another layer might handle validation or formatting.

Without that clarity, the system becomes hard to understand and harder to maintain. Model combinations work best when they improve a specific weakness rather than adding complexity for its own sake.
